Pretty Lady:
For this project, I decided to create a Halloween poster. To prepare, I created thumbnails of a children’s poster for a spooky house, a funny male zombie, and a mischievous pumpkin. Then I said, “To hell with it! (Get it? Halloween and all?) I want to create a Halloween poster like the ones I would see illegally plastered to construction sites and bus shelters in New York City advertising an amazing party at a shifty East Village club.” So that’s what I did.
My given perimeters are the poster must be 11” x 17”; I must create it in Adobe Illustrator, and all artwork must be built from scratch. I started by taking an Apple Photo Booth picture of myself screaming (Yes, that is my face being used as the template.) I then took that photo and created a sketch from it. It actually was going to be a man, but here’s what happened. My bottom teeth didn’t show in the photo (and I wanted bottom teeth to accentuate the scream) so I drew teeth on my bottom lip. After that I drew a generous pair of lips and that’s when I stepped back and said, “This is one pretty dame! So long, zombie man.”
Also, at that point, I decided instead of creating a full–fledge zombie, that she should be someone who has been infected by some incurable sci-fi disease and is in transition. The left eye is so diseased that it needs a patch to keep it from falling out and the disease has started to spread to her right eye. Now with all this, I thought, why can’t she be pretty and why can’t she get herself dolled-up for a night on the town? And that is how the lipstick and the pink bow were born.
Enjoy
